About
I am Dilruba Gürel, a graduate of the Painting, Printing and Pattern Design department, specializing in serigraphy. I design and produce stoneware products and offer them through my own website. Each piece is carefully crafted, from the design stage to the final product.
Stoneware is a type of ceramic fired at high temperatures, making it highly durable and long-lasting. Compared to traditional ceramics, it is stronger; compared to porcelain, it has a more natural and distinctive texture. This makes it both aesthetically pleasing and suitable for everyday use. In every piece I create, I aim for a simple, natural, and functional design approach.
What is Stoneware?
Stoneware is a type of ceramic fired at high temperatures . This high firing temperature makes the products denser, harder, and more durable. Its near non-porous structure results in low water absorption, making it ideal for daily use.
Difference from Ceramic and Porcelain
Earthenware (traditional ceramic)
Fired at lower temperatures, more porous, and more fragile.
Porcelain
Fired at very high temperatures, finer and sometimes translucent, usually more delicate in appearance.
Stoneware
Positioned between the two:
- More durable than ceramic
- More natural and matte compared to porcelain
- Highly practical for everyday use
Advantages
- Heat resistant (can be suitable for oven and microwave)
- More resistant to scratches and impacts
- Long-lasting
- Provides a natural and aesthetic look, especially in handmade products
Why is it preferred?
Stoneware has become increasingly popular in recent years due to the rise of handmade products and the demand for natural, minimal design. Each piece is slightly unique, making every product more original.
